Current Champion
Gran Guerrero is the current champion. He defeated Hechicero on November 7, 2022 in Arena Puebla to win the championship.
History of Championship
Despite being the highest of weight divisions and the first CMLL-specific title to be created, this has never been the most emphasised of the CMLL world belts. Several US sources (as "world heavyweight title" is the shorthand for "top singles title" in the US) incorrectly see this as THE top title in CMLL, and in the PWI 500, the Heavyweight champions get undue weight.
A championship reign for Brazo de Plata is erroneously omitted from most listings of this championship history. His championship reign with this title overlapped his CMLL World Trios Championship with Los Brazos.
