Current Champions

Angel de Oro and Niebla Roja 44th Champions

Niebla Roja & Angel de Oro are the current champions. They defeated Volador Jr. and Titán on January 23, 2022 in Arena Mexico.

History of Championship

25: Averno & Mephisto won a 16 team tournament to get a title shot and then defeated Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero to win the championship for the second time on February 1, 2008. Upon winning the belts, they were invited to join Los Perros del Mal. They eventually accepted, while Hector Garza left the group to protest their inclusion. Averno and Mephisto had no known title defenses during their short reign.

26: Mistico & Hector Garza had never teamed prior to their title match, but still beat the champions in a non-televised match in Arena Puebla. This was the 2nd major title change in the arena in 7 months, and appeared to be part of solidifying Garza as a new tecnico and building him up for his pending hair match with El Hijo del Perro Aguayo. Averno and Mephisto were now Perro's main lieutenants and the reason Hector split from Perros del Mal (as well as continual nuisances to Mistico), so Hector was able to win the titles and get some revenge leading into the Dos Leyendas match.

Six weeks later, the two teams had a rematch in Arena Mexico. Most of the other matches in the the Perros vs Mistico/Hector/others rivalry were concluded by illegal acts, but this match was never concluded because of too much rule breaking. The third fall had fouls, referee Tigre Hispano accidentally dropkicked and eliminated wrestlers came back in to stop counts. After the last bit, the Box Y Lucha commission stopped the match and declared the titles held up.

V: Upon further review of the commission, the championship was officially declared vacant, but the commission also declared the two teams involved were the most deserving of the titles, so a rematch for the titles was announced. CMLL and the commission agreed to have the match take place on the May 23rd show at Arena Mexico.

27: Garza & Mistico won the championship back in the May 23rd match, cleanly defeating their opponents. They managed to defeat the La Peste Negra team of Negro Casas & Mr. Niebla soon after the rudos formed their group, but Mistico's subsequent injuries robbed this team of any momentum.

28: After a few weeks of defeating various combination of CMLL top tecnicos high flyers, culminating a trio up of Mistico, La Sombra and Hector Garza, the rudo team of Averno, Ephesto and Mephisto challenged for the tecnicos championships. While Ephesto was unable to defeat La Sombra for his NWA World Welterweight Championship, Averno & Mephisto became tag team champions for the third time as a pair. The finish had it's share of controversy; Averno threw off his mask, blamed Mistico for it, and got the referee to award the deciding fall to the challengers by disqualification. Championships were allowed to change on a DQ, so Averno & Mephisto beat their arch-rival without actually pinning or submitting him.

29: La Sombra and Volador Jr. were the 29th Champions, defeating former champions Averno & Mephisto on 1/16/09 in their first defense of the titles. Their year long reign was a highly successful one. The duo didn't have a set rival, but instead spent most of 2009 in short feuds against top rudos, winning the feud every time, usually in exciting matches. The team were voted tag team of the year in CMLL.com's fan balloting.

Volador & Sombra's stature grew during the course of their reign. They were featured about at the same level as Mistico, and formed the tecnico trio Super Sky Team with him. Much of the major CMLL events the following year would revolve around this trio's breakup, and the successful partnership established the foundation to be later knocked down.

30: Volador & Sombra were dethroned by Hector Garza & Mr. Aguila. The match was an intersection of two stories. Garza and Aguila, members of The Invasors, relied on the help of rudo referee Tirantes to gain the win. Meanwhile, the loss laid the seeds for Volador to switch to the rudo side.

In their only recorded defense, Garza & Aguila again used Tirantes' help to keep their tag titles versus Mascara Dorada and Mistico.

31: In usual CMLL fashion of the time, Garza & Aguila feuded with the newly realigned Guerreros de la Atlantida trio of Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero and Dragon Rojo on Tuesday night Arena Mexico show. After the Guerrero team won over a couple weeks, Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero demanded a shot at the tag titles. Garza accepted for the following week, under the condition that Tirnates would again be the referee.

The title match was held at a special show for Dia de la Muertos in Arena Coliseo DF. Due to a rib injury suffered two days prior, Atlantis was unable to wrestle. Dragon Rojo Jr. took his place. Also, Rafa El Maya was the referee, not Tirantes, and no explaination was made. The champions complained about both changes before the match, and after when the Guerreros were able to beat them for the belts. Ultimo Guerrero became champion for a sixth time, the most reigns so far.
