History of Championship
Despite being a WWF Championship, it was defended in the UWA for many years. Made up part of the J-Crown octuple championship - this led to an interesting situation where this WWF title was defended on WCW programming at the height of their rivalry. In 1997 it became exclusively a WWF title and WWF ignored all reigns in Mexico and Japan. This continued until it was abandoned in 2001 in favour of the WCW Cruiserweight Title.
