Current Champions
Los Oficiales, Oficial AK-47, Oficial Fierro, and Oficial 911, won the titles on July 26, 2012.
History of Championship
The belts are mainly defended inside of Arena Naucalpan or small arenas within Mexico City. These are also called the Mexico State Trios Championships.
After a period of residing in obscurity, the Los Oficiales reign brought the title back to prominence. The Oficials were a new act, and successfully defending these titles so many times over such a length of time gave them much more credibility than new gimmicks in IWRG usually achieve. Their 2008 was among the best years for a trio in recent years, winning both this championship and IWRG's IWRG Intercontinental Trios Championship over the course of the year.
Los Terrible Cerebros, frequent rivals of the Oficials before and after the change, also got off to a strong start as champions, but injuries and absences ultimately derailed them. Cerebro Negro had a falling out with IWRG over working a DTU show the same day, which put these championships on hold. IWRG eventually announced a tournament to decide new champions, then brought back Cerebro Negro anyway, now on a different team.
IWRG held a three week, eight team tournament for the vacant championships. The finals saw the rudo "family" team of Los Máscara Año 2000s (Hijo, Senior, and Junior) defeat the rudo Gringos VIPs (Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Gringo Loco). However, Silver King, watching the match from the front row, correctly informed the referees about the Mascaras using a low blow to gain the win, and the decision was overturned in the Gringos favor.
The Gringos title reign started off strong, with frequent appearances and defenses. It was derailed Gringo Loco left Mexico to return home in December 2010. It appears IWRG believed he'd return, and occasionally would list him on lineups, but Loco vanished and the belts were in limbo. The Gringos made one early attempt to replace him in the trio that was rejected by the commission. They still eventually made the switch, putting Apolo Estrada Jr. in the spot for a title defense against an exotico team on a show in Arena Naucalpan but billed as a Wagner Promotions show.
The same trio of Gringos would lose the belts to a new group of Oficials, Comando Elite. Comando Elite switched from tecnico to rudo during their feud, but never made a defense and seemed to quickly lose the interest of the promotion. Elite was started by an Oficial who had been kicked out of Los Oficiales, so it was natural the two police groups would feud. Los Oficiales captured these belts in their first challenge since their memorable title run.
