Profile

He was born in the 1940's and trained under "Coneja" Lopez and Hercules.

He debuted in 1960 at Arena Coliseo Acapulco vs Charro Valdez. Before becoming Chanoc, he wrestled under the names of Araña Negra (Black Spider), Átomo (Atom) and Ulises, which oddly enough was the name of one of his main rivals. The name Chanoc likely comes from a comic book adventurer superhero who was popular during that time.

His career started picking up steam in 1963. He captured the mask of Ulises on January 16th, 1963 and then captured the Mexican National Lightweight Championship from Juan Diaz on October 17th, 1963.

From the limited results we have from the time period, Chanoc successfully defended his title against Juan Diaz again on December 8th, 1963. Ulises was able to get some revenge on Chanoc after his mask loss as he defeated Chanoc for his title on April 21st, 1964. The feud between the two ended up continuining with Chanoc unsuccessfully challenging for the title 3 more times through 1964, with the two being frequently matched together in August and September 1964.

The bloody rivalry between Chanoc and Ulises resulted in a hair vs mask match on September 18th, 1964, which Chanoc won. To add more salt onto the wound, Chanoc regained his Mexican National Lightweight Championship from Ulises on November 1st, 1964. The two supposedly fought many times during this period.

In 1965, Chanoc and Rodolfo Ruíz engaged in a feud. Ruiz defeated Chanoc for his title on January 13th, 1965. Chanoc got the better of the feud though as he defeated Ruiz twice for his hair in April 1965 and in June 1966.

During this time, Chanoc had atleast one more shot at the Mexican National Lightweight Championship on December 26th, 1965, against Alberto Muñoz, but was unsuccessful. His luck turned around though by June 1966, as it was reported that he was both the Guerrero State Middleweight and the Guerrero State Welterweight Champion.

He is said to have lost his mask on December 14th, 1968 against a wrestler under the name of La Sombra from El Salvador. However, he continued to wear his mask in Mexico before losing his mask to Centauro, sometime after June 1971. On June 13th, 1971, he defeated Samuray for his mask. And on September 20th, 1978, he and Mario Valenzuela were beaten by El Jalisco I and El Jalisco II in a double mask vs hair match.

While little is known of his career from the 1970's and on, he is remembered as a legend of Acapulco wrestling.
