Profile
Rey Astral (born August 16, 1993) is the ring name of a Mexican luchador from Reynosa. The wrestler now known as Rey Astral has earlier worked under the name "Astro Rey". He was born in Tamaulipas and is the son of legendary local wrestler Super Chucky.
Career
Early career - independent wrestling
Rey Astral is a third generation wrestler that grew up in wrestling and was trained early by his father, "Super Chucky" and was in the ring for the first time already in 2001 at Arena Coliseo Reynosa, when he was 8 years old. However his real debut as a professional wrestler occured on February 7, 2009 at a large event. He was wrestling under the name Astro Rey, a name that he kept on using until 2013. He was picked up by Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) star El Valiente and joined his team as they together with Máscara Púrpura defeated the opponents in Astral's debut.
He kept on wrestling at independent shows in 2009 to 2013 and also at Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) & CMLL B-shows although not being officially signed by either promotion. His regular tag team partner is Estrellato In 2011 he had a very intense rivalry with a fellow youngster, rudo Unico, Jr. During this time he also wrestled with and against several stars such as Volador Jr., Rey Escorpion, Polvora, Angel de Oro, El Soberano, Tritón & the Pirata Morgan family.
In a match in March 2012 he suffered an injury. He returned in January 2013, with the new name "Rey Astral". Even though he changed his name he didn't change his ring attire (including mask) or general character.
In February 2013, Reynosas independent promotions started a tournament to crown a new champion for the vacant FILL Cruiserweight Title. Astral won a battle royal matchup which led to a semifinal vs Kuman Jr. that he also won. He ended up facing Extreme Tiger for the title but Astral lost that match. He got a rematch later and won the title.
