Wrestled in UWA in 1990 and 1991 as part of a NJPW training excursion. Teamed with Akiyoshi and Takayama as a trio. He was never pushed as strong as his partners in Mexico due to not working for the Universal Lucha Libre group in Japan.

Despite never losing his mask, El Samurai has unmasked on occasion, in 2004 for one night only against Osamu Nishimura, and at a NJPW/MUGA show on 1/29/2005 vs Shinsuke Nakamura.
