History of Championship
The Vanguardia 4x4 Championship is a Lucha Libre Championship promoted by the Hidalgo based promotion Vanguardia Lucha Libre. The idea came from Miedo Extremo, Ciclope, and Drastik Boy who remembered the WWE's Hardcore Championship. The Vanguardia 4x4 Championship follows the same 24/7 rules as the WWE Hardcore Championship or the Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship. It should be constantly defended anywhere against anyone, even outside of matches or outside a ring, as anyone can become champion by pinning the champion or making him submit as long as a referee is there to confirm the win. It is the first Mexican Championship that follows the 24/7 rules[1].
The championship was introduced on November 15, 2019 in Pachuca, Hidalgo during a press conference. It was explained that anyone could become champion regardless the promotion or the match stipulations. Even staff members or photographers or anyone linked to lucha libre. The Championship is also winnable regardless of gender as Zuzu Divine became the first female champion. The Odaiba Squad became the first group acknowledged as collective champions, all six members shared the championship. The first non-wrestler to become champion was José Manuel Guillén.[2]; However, his reign lasted for just a few minutes before being defeated by Fly Star.
