He originally planned to debut as el Yaqui he had the permission of the previous Mexicali wrestler to use the name. However, Barick River did not want him to wrestle under the name of Yaqui. Instead, River suggested to choose a pirate name. His professional wrestling debut was on April 12, 1994 in a singles match against Tirano in the now disappeared Arena Huracan Ramirez Mexicali.
He is recognized for his strong wrestling style in his early singles and Tag Team matches. Regarded as a rudo with a long time rivalry with El Musical.
