Before become a professional wrestler, he began as a mascot under the name of Pandita, succeeding Principito Negro who was the first versión. He started his training at the age of 14 with his father. However, he left the trainign and restarted with his grandfather Caudillo II, Angel Diablo, and Killer Dog. Thunder Boy also contributed in his preparation early on his in ring career. His training partners and future rivals were Luminoso, and American Rebel. Debuted on October 22, 1999 in Arena Nacionalista in a one on one against Despiadado. He had the opportunity to debut as Príncipe Negro Jr., but he turned it down, because he believed that name was for his older brother. Instead he chose the name of Rey Negro.
