The Americas Light Heavyweight Championship is a professional wrestling championship in Guatemala. Currently, the championship is owned by the Federación Mundial de Lucha Libre (FMLL). It was introduced in the 80s, and was defended thru finals 90s; it was reactivated in 2018.
Current Champion
Chente El Hacha Jr. is the current champion. He defeated Hijo de Voltrón on October 6, 2018 in Arena Guatemala-México, Guatemala City to win the vacant title.
History of Championship
The Americas Light Heavyweight Championship was brought in Guatemala by Chino Chow in the 80's, Chow lost title with Veloz Tapatio, a year after it Veloz Tapatio lost the belt and the mask in the same match by El Arriero de san juan in a triangular suicida with Fishman (Arriero exposed mask and Centroamerica belt, Veloz Tapatio exposed mask and Americas Light Heavyweight title, Fishman exposed mask and hes UWA World Light Heavyweight title, Fishman become the winner of the triangular suicida)
After that El Arriero de San Juan becomes the eternal champion of the Americas.
Remained champion 4 years, 11 months and three days until it loses it with Atlantis, 4 months later regains the title.
On October 2, 2018, the Federación Mundial de Lucha Libre (FMLL) announced the reactivation of the championship after several years of inactivity, booking a one-on-one match between Chente El Hacha Jr., and Hijo de Voltrón in order to get the new champion.
