Notes
El Dorado was born in 1951 in San Luis Potosi. He has at least one brother who is said to have wrestled under the name Orion. He was trained by multiple wrestlers including Perro Aguayo, Diablo Velasco, Ray Plata, Tarzan Ramirez and others.
His name El Dorado refers to a 16th century chief who according to legend, covered himself in gold dust and submerged himself into a lake. It was said at one point that he debuted in 1971 and he was on Arena Coliseo Guadalajara cards by March 1973. During this time, he was often put in the semi-main or midcard against wrestlers like Bruno Estrada and Rodolfo Ruiz. He challenged Monje Loco for the Occidente Light Heavyweight Championship on August 21st, 1977 but was unsuccessful. In September 1979, he had a shot at the Occidente Welterweight Championship through a torneo though the result of that match is unknown.
He mostly stayed in his midcard to semi-main role into the 80's, where his brother Orion often joined him. On February 22nd, 1981, he defeated "El Sultan" for his mask at Plaza de Toros Valente Arellano. He advanced to CMLL's Arena Coliseo and Arena Puebla cards by 1982 along with some rare Arena Mexico appearances, though he was a clear midcarder. He was often put against wrestlers like Crucero I, El Salvaje, MS-2 and León Kirilenko and began to team with Doberman, who would be a long term ally. Over time, his feud with Kirilenko became more serious with Dorado capturing Kirilenko's Occidente Middleweight Championship on March 27th, 1983. Dorado made a successful defense against Arana Atomica on February 5th, 1984 but lost the title back to Kirilenko before June. He started making more frequent appearances at Arena Mexico by the end of 1984.
He began a rivalry with Verdugo in 1985. The pair met each other at least twice in February and the feud took off in June when the pair met multiple times. Tensions escalated and the two agreed to a mask vs mask match on June 30th, 1986. Verdugo one the first fall but Dorado took the second fall. Dorado then ended up winning the third fall when Verdugo hit him with a dive but could not return to the ring in time and was counted out. They met once more in a trios match in July, but the feud was finished.
Dorado was pulled from a trios match against Los Brazos on September 6th, 1985 at Arena Mexico. He returned the next week in a trios match where he teamed with Cachorro Mendoza and frequent ally, Solar. The team fought El Supremo, Mocho Cota and Talisman. Supremo and Dorado got into it and the pair were no strangers to each other, having wrestled against each other in various types of matches atleast 8 times since 1980. The two golden themed wrestlers agreed to a mask vs mask match for the EMLL 52nd Anniversario. Shockingly, the match never ended up happening as there was a major earthquake that cancelled the show. The match was supposed to happen at Arena Mexico, but the arena may have suffered damage during the earthquake and due to their holiday break, EMLL didn't run there regularly again until February 14th, 1985.
With the match with Supremo off, El Dorado and Leon Kirilenko reignited their rivalry. They met up in a trios match as part of a Occidente Trios Championship torneo on October 1st, 1985 then met again in a trios match on December 1st, 1985 at Arena Coliseo Guadalajara. It is unknown what happened there but the two agreed to a hair vs mask match the next week which Dorado won. The match was oddly not featured as a main event.
El Dorado entered a star-studded ruleta de la muerte on August 3rd, 1986, where the losing teams would advance and the losers of the final match would have to fight each other in a mask vs mask match. The tournament featured wrestlers like Blue Demon, Angel Blanco and Tinieblas. El Dorado was paired with El Fantasma, whom he had rarely ever been matched with. The pair were defeated by Tigre de Bengala and Tinieblas in the first round. Then they lost again in the second round to El Mercenario and Fuerza Guerrera before losing in the final to El Cobarde and Kato Kung Lee. The pair of Fantasma and Dorado were then forced to fight in a mask vs mask match. Dorado was said to have hit Fantasma with chairs, steps and rammed him into the ring post. Fantasma may have come back with a bear hug then hit a tombstone which took out Dorado. Dorado was unmasked as José Luis Aguilera. Rumor had it that Dorado was not only supposed to lose his mask to El Supremo at the EMLL Anniversary show but also on another two occasions that ended up getting cancelled.
Dorado's career seemed to come to a sudden halt leading up to the match and after. He stopped appearing for EMLL and then started appearing at Pavillion Azteca. Due to limited results it is unknown how much success he had there. He took up the name "El Jinete" later on and made his way back to EMLL. We have limited results from that time period but El Jinete was unmasked in the 1990's by El Charro II. He then lost his hair at some point to Loco Zandokan II and then wrestled for a period of time as Sangre Fria II.
He has two sons who got into wrestling - El Dorado Jr. and Sangre Fria Jr. He is remembered for his trademark golden mask and for being part of the cancelled EMLL 52nd Anniversario show.
