Tournament for vacant or new championship, beginning on New Year's Day 1964. All matches took place in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara.
As standard with tournaments in this period, the first round was announced as eight men with the actual first round matches decided on by a battle royal on the first day. Those scheduled for the first round (and eliminated if they appeared): Apolo Curiel, Jose Gomez, Conde Negro, and El Muerto.
