The Northern Welterweight Championship is regional championship promoted and defended in the Northern states of Mexico. The title is not restricted to any specific wrestling promotion. It's commonly referred to as LLU Welterweight Championship due to it's connection with the promotion Lucha Libre Unida (LLU).

Current Champion

Chico de Barrio is the current champion. He defeated Delirio, and Epydemius on April 24, 2016 at Gimnasio Nuevo Mezquital in San Nicolás, Nuevo León to win the title.

History of Championship

Lucha Libre Unida (LLU) announced through Facebook they agreed a deal with Luis Reyna in order to promote three championships in hands of Reyna's older brother, and former lucha libre promoter Tony Reyna. These championships were the Northern Light Heavyweight Championship, the Northern Welterweight Championship, the Nuevo Leon Middleweight Championship and the Nuevo Leon Women's Championship.

The first champions recognized under management of the promotion were Furor (Light Heavyweight), Sombra del Ring (Welterweight), and Luis Reyna (Middleweight).
