Mexican National Welterweight Tournament, 1984

Chamaco Valaguez won the NWA World Welterweight Championship, causing him to vacate the Mexican National Welterweight Championship by rule. EMLL held a tournament to determine a new champion. This tournament was called a lightning tournament because it was all held in one day, which EMLL would occasionally do for non-title tournaments but rarely (maybe never) for a title belt.

Box y Lucha 1652 reported the path to the final for the two finalists and no other results. Bufalo Salvaje, El Salvaje, Excálibur, Javier Cruz, Kalimaco, Lemus, Solar II, Sombra Poblana, Súperbólido, and Zorro De Oro were listed in the tournament the previous week and do not appear in the results. At least two of those names likely didn't appear, as two names not listed made it into the recorded matches
