Mexican National Lightweight Tournament, 1966

Alberto Munoz vacated the Mexican National Lightweight Championship after winning Mexican National Welterweight Championship in 1966. A tournament was held in Plaza el Toros el Cortijo.

The first part of the tournament was held on March 13. Reyes Oliva, Tizoc, Tom Mix, Javier Meza, Pedro Nieves, Dick Angelo are mentioned by Lucha libre 167 as participating (and being eliminated in this stage.)

Raul Rojas & Rolando Costa advanced to the final on March 22nd in the same arena. The match went to a draw, leaving no champion.

The two met again in the same arena on April 3rd with Costa winning by disqualification.

Rojas would defeat Costa for the title shortly after, on May 1st, in the same arena.
