He suffered a martinete from [[Abismo Negro]] that according to AAA speakers forced him to retire from the activity. It's unclear if it was just a work and this luchador took another gimmick (he was the mini of the already unmasked and booking-forgotten [[La Calaca]]), or it was true. Other Calaquitas appeared across the Mexico across these years, but it's unknown if the original was between them.

The story of La Calaquita may be the strangest one of any luchador in the history of Mexican wrestling. He broke onto the scene with AAA in 1997 as the midget version of La Calaca. He started off as a rudo and feuded... naturally... with La Parkita. However even though his larger counterpart left the promotion, Calaquita stuck around in AAA and turned tecnico to feud with Mini Abismo Negro and Espectrito II. The talented mini got the first major win of his career over Mini Siniestro in a mask vs. mask match on a big AAA TV Taping in Madero. Everything appeared to be going right for him until a few months later when after an undercard trios match he was attacked by Abismo Negro and driven into the mat with a martinete. The match never aired on television although the angle was shown on Noti AAA. Abismo even cut a promo about the incident and the magazines played it up as an angle with La Parka vowing revenge. Everyone assumed this was leading to La Calaquita's return down the road except... it didn't. In fact, the only time La Calaquita was seen again was on another taping a few months later where he came out in a wheelchair with a neckbrace on and proclaimed his career was over due to injures suffered from the martinete. In Spring 2001 La Calaquita turned up on a AAA Tv promo announcing his return, but his return never concretized. Other Calaquita's have appeared on the indy circuit although it is unclear as to whether the original was under the mask or not. Whatever happened to this La Calaquita is certainly one of the bigger mysteries of all-time...
