IWRG took the IWRG Intercontinental Lightweight Championship from Chicano for a variety reasons, about a year after he won it (and had never defended it.)
IWRG typically holds single elimination tournaments to determine vacant championships. This time, the eight announced wrestlers fought each in one multiman match, with the final three survivors moving on to a final the second week.
