ECW was an American wrestling promotion that existed from 1993 to 2001. Owned originally by Tod Gordon, it was bought in 1996 by Paul Heyman who ran it to its end in 2001.
Following two reunion PPVs in 2005 and 2006, a new brand was created by Vince McMahon for WWE in 2006 called ECW. However, there has been very little respect shown to ECW's history and the version isn't regarded as part of the "true" ECW by many fans.
