As part of a flurry of title 1975 title changes, Fishman won the NWA World Welterweight Championship while holding the Mexican National Welterweight Championship. Fishman was required to give up the national title by rule. He quickly lost the world title in the ring to Blue Demon, going from two titles to zero in a matter of months. EMLL waited a while to fill this vacancy, by which time Fishman was cleared to participate.

The tournament included four men, with a match a week.

  Semifinals Final

   Alberto Munoz W     October 12
 Karloff Lagarde
   Alberto Munoz W
September 28
   Fishman
 Gallo Tapado
   Fishman W

Fishman beat Munoz in a decision match for the world title he briefly held in April, then again in this tournament final for the national title he previously held. He would again win the world welterweight championship in 1976, vacating this title a second straight time.
