The Northern Welterweight Championship is regional championship promoted and defended in the Northern states of Mexico. The title is not restricted to any specific wrestling promotion. It's commonly refered to as LLU Welterweight Championship due to it's conection with the promotion Lucha Libre Unida (LLU).

History of Championship

Lucha Libre Unida (LLU) announced through Facebook they agreed a deal with Luis Reyna in order to promote three championships in hands of Reyna's older brother, and former lucha libre promoter Tony Reyna. These championships were the Northern Light Heavyweight Championship, the Northern Welterweight Championship, and the Nuevo Leon Middleweight Championship, plus the fellow managed Nuevo Leon Women's Championship.

The first champions recognised under management of the promotion were Furor (Light Heavyweight), Sombra del Ring (Welterweight), and Luis Reyna (Middleweight).
