Dragon Azteca was born in Salamanca, Guanajuato, Mexico. His brothers have also been luchadors, Garra de Tigre & Phoenix Azteca. Dragon Azteca was a big fan of wrestling growing up, especially Eddie Guerrero.

He started greco-roman wrestling at Akins High School, Austin, Texas in his freshman year, ultimately winning 2nd place in a state tournament. Dragon Azteca wrestled in both Texas and Arkansas before leaving MLLM due to injury and person issues.

Five months later, Dragon Azteca debuted for UWF Laredo promotions. Azteca won the cruiserweight championship at the age of 16, by defeating Mr. Drakus in a best of three falls match. Dragon Azteca held championship for 7 months before losing the title to Dark Energy after interference by Drakus.

The name Dragon Azteca comes from combining his Azteca and Chinese heritage.
