The capital of Mexico, Mexico City is the heart of the lucha libre world. CMLL has its headquarters there and its two most famous arenas, Arena Mexico and Arena Coliseo are both located in Mexico City. Between being Mexico's largest city and hub for lucha libre, many stars are originally from or got their start in Mexico City.

Mexico City is in the "state" of Distrito Federal (DF), (equivalent to the District of Columbia in the United States) but since the DF consists only of Mexico City, the two place names are functionally the same. (Mexico State is an entirely different place.)
