I think we've had matches where people have put hair, masks and titles on the line in some tag/four way situation, and we usually only consider the ultimate match as the title defense or the lucha de apuesta. It's not exactly what's going on here, but it's the closest comparison I can think of. --thecubsfan 19:45, 5 January 2009 (UTC) | I think we've had matches where people have put hair, masks and titles on the line in some tag/four way situation, and we usually only consider the ultimate match as the title defense or the lucha de apuesta. I think I like this way of including the source links better than what we originally had, but I'm going to sit on it before changing other titles. Feedback is welcome. (I'll probably just change the standard templates if I make the shift, don't change the pages.) --Thecubsfan (talk) 10:20, 21 April 2020 (PDT) |

I'm presuming the 1990.01.12 title match did happen, but it's just a title defense instead of a title change. Not 100% sure, but it'd be hard to come up with it from nowhere. --thecubsfan 05:21, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
I totally endorse what you're doing, in listing the announced/reported defense number where known and conflicting. More info is better - it lets us know what we're missing, and it reminds everyone else that we are missing plenty. Thanks. --thecubsfan 06:13, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
12/04/07 title defense =
Ummm...the 12/4/07 defense that was just added for Averno against Vaneglis & Mistico, I didn't think Averno actually defended his title because he managed to gain the first pinfall, thus allowing him to not actually put his title on the line. Am I wrong? --JT179 07:16, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
You have a point. It's a tough call. One can either look at it as Averno won the three-way and thus avoided putting his title on the line or Averno successfully defended his belt since it was dubbed a title vs title vs title match.--Robert 08:03, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

missing title reign
Box Y Lucha has Santo beating Rene Guajardo on 1966-12-13. Rene Guajardo is champ at that point, though there's no other sign of him losing it. --Thecubsfan (talk) 09:13, 13 December 2016 (PST)
I can finally put this together 3.5 years later
- that Santo/Rene Guajardo match happened in 1968, not 1966. DJ Spectro wrote about that title change in a Facebook post now missing. The Lucha Libre magazine for that week is missing, and subsequent ones only call attention to the Mendoza/Solitario apuesta match.
- Santo is champion through early 1969. A March Lucha Libre rankings update has him as champion.
- the Rene Guajardo/Rayo de Jalisco match mentioned as the title change on 04/18 is actually Jalisco winning a #1 contenders tournament to get a shot at Santo. Lucha Libre confirms that.
- Rayo de Jalisco wins the title from El Santo on 04/25 in Arena Mexico. That's confirmed in Lucha Libre 289.
This means everything after Rene Guajardo's 1967 reign (current title reign 25) needs to be one later. Santo should be credited with a second middleweight title reign. --Thecubsfan (talk) 11:40, 8 April 2020 (PDT)
