The NWA Mexico Lightweight Championship was a professional wrestling championship promoted by NWA Mexico. The title became the only NWA championship endorsed by the NWA in Mexico in 2008 until the creation of the NWA Mexico Welterweight Championship. The NWA belts promoted by CMLL weren't recognized by the promotion.
History of Championship
The title was created shortly after the creation of NWA Mexico. A tournament was announced in early October and the tournament took place on November 1, 2008 with veteran wrestler Skayde becoming the first champion by defeating Turbo and Trauma II in the finals of a tournament run in Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera.
On March 10, 2012 during an event of GALLI in Elgin, Illinois, Skayde lost the title against Discovery, who remained as champion until December 9, 2012. Discovery successfully defended this title versus Emperador Azteca on that date. After the match, GALLI announced they NWA administration told GALLI they would not endorse matches for their championships outside of NWA events. GALLI returned this title to Mexico and subsequently named Discovery as first GALLI Mexico Champion.
On November 13, 2013, the PWR announced through their official website the disband of NWA Mexico and, by subsequent, the end of the history of both championships promoted by NWA Mexico.
